FAQ

Q -  What is the location and coordinates for the race course?
A - Lake Cumberland is located in south central Kentucky approximately 90 miles south of Lexington, KY, about 100 miles north and west of Knoxville, TN. The race course begins just above Wolf Creek Dam and extends up the lake (northeast) to just above the Indian Creek (coordinates 85.08.00 and 36.52.00).

Q -  Where can spectators view the races?
A -  Land based spectators will be able to enjoy the race from the banks along the shoreline free except the viewing area at the start-finish line adjacent to Halcomb’s Landing (that area is part of Racer Village and requires an entrance fee). Boat based spectators will be able to view the race, free of charge, from along the east end and south side of the race course. The spectator areas will be marked with buoys and patrolled by a safety fleet during races.  Click on the “race course” button it will bring up a map of the area just above Wolf Creek dam showing the race course.

Q -  Will pleasure or houseboat be restricted from the lake during the race?
A - The only area restricted to boat traffic will be the race course and safety area between the course and spectator areas during races and trials only. Navigation to Indian Creek and near the course will be idle speed only during the actual races and trials. During non-race times normal water safety and courtesy rules apply.

Q -  Where is Racer Village going be located?
A- Racer Village will be at Halcomb’s Landing located on Hwy 127 south of Jamestown on the east end of Wolf Creek Dam. All the marinas on the lake are helping to host the race. Please contact the marinas for any special events they may have planned. Links to the individual marina websites may be found under the Accommodations button on the Grand Prix website.

Q -  If Halcomb’s Landing is closed where can I launch my boat?
A - There are several options for launching a boat. The launch ramp at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park about 7 miles north of Halcomb’s Landing, take Hwy 127 north to State Park Road about 3 miles, turn right on State Park Road then follow signs to the ramp. This ramp is the best for all size boats and has ample parking. Rowena Landing is about the same distance, from Halcomb’s go north on Hwy 127 to State Park Rd., turn right onto State Park Rd. and turn right at the second road, Old Rowena Landing Rd. and follow to the ramp. This ramp is best for boats less than 25’ and has parking for about 15-20 vehicles with trailers. During the race weekend (daylight hours) a shuttle service is available if off-site parking is necessary.

Q - Will parking be available at or near Racers Village?
A - Primary parking will be available below Wolf Creek Dam north of the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery with shuttle service available to and from the village. Secondary parking is available at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park with shuttle service available. Shuttle service for Park guests is also available.

Q.  Where will lodging be available?
A - Jamestown, Russell Springs, Somerset, Burnside, Monticello, Albany, Burkesville and Columbia all have lodging. Lake Cumberland marinas will have houseboats, cabins and/or campgrounds available. Contact information and links are available under the “Accommodations” button on the Grand Prix website.

Q.  During the event, am I allowed to have a passenger in my boat?
A - Depending on what function you and your boat will be performing will determine the answer to this question.  If a passenger is allowed there are age restrictions.  The best way to determine the answer to this question will be to wait and see what you will be doing and the safety fleet coordinator will be able to answer your question.
